Vitamin B3 is a water-soluble vitamin, which means the body cannot store it. Therefore, it must be a standard part of the diet in order to avoid deficiency. Nicotinamide (also known as Niacinamide) is the amide derivative of niacin. Niacin is converted to nicotinamide when ingested in amounts that do not exceed the body’s physiological requirements. The effects of both nicotinamide and niacin are almost indistinguishable.
Nicotinamide is rapidly absorbed from the GI tract and, although still a water soluble vitamin, can be stored in the liver as the coenzyme NAD (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide).
