For many of us, Spring means the onset of watery eyes, itchy throats, tickly ears and runny noses. Hayfever, pollen allergies and other seasonal discomfort can make both outdoor and indoor life pretty difficult but there are some things you can do to help ease the symptoms.
Here are five tips to help you manage hayfever:
Track the pollen count: Knowing when pollen counts are high allows you to limit your time outdoors during those periods. Many weather websites and apps provide daily forecasts.
Minimise exposure: Try to keep doors and windows closed during peak pollen hours (usually morning and evening). Consider using air purifiers with HEPA filters at home and in your car.
Create a pollen-free haven: After spending time outdoors, take a shower and change clothes to remove any pollen clinging to you. Wash your hair regularly as well and change your pillowcase and bedding frequently.
Nasal irrigation: Using a saline nasal rinse can help flush out irritants like pollen from your nasal passages. This can provide relief from congestion, runny nose, and even itchy eyes.
Start early: If you know you suffer from hayfever, consider starting your anti-sneeze regime a few weeks before peak season to proactively help prevent symptoms.
