Oregano Oil
What is Oregano Oil?
Oregano is a plant grown from a similar one to the mint plant and is usually used to flavor food but can also be used as an essential oil (not to be taken orally). Oregano essential oil is created by air drying the leaves and then extracting the oil from steam distillation. Oregano oil extract, however, can be taken in a pill/ capsule form.
It contains compounds called phenols, terpenes, and terpenoids which all have antioxidant properties such as Carvacrol, Thymol, and Rosmarinic Acid.
Benefits of Oregano Oil

Lowers Cholesterol- This is once again, could be down to the carvacrol in it.
Treats Yeast Infections- Some tests have shown it can be effective in treating against the yeast known as Candida.
Can Improve Gut Health- specifically a gut complaint known as 'leaky gut'.
Pain Relief- Applied topically, it can have a soothing effect on mild pain but more studies are needed to prove this.
