Glutamine
Glutamine is an amino acid responsible for creating protein in the body and is essential for the immune system as it can fight off harmful bacteria and viruses. While it can be produced in the body, it is best to supplement it if you are feeling very ill or suffer from any chronic illnesses.
It is easy enough to consume through a balanced diet and is found in foods like eggs, beef, milk, tofu, and corn.
The benefits of Glutamine include boosting the immune system. It is able to fuel the body with white blood cells. During bouts of ill health or injury, the body needs more Glutamine, if there is not enough it will take it from muscles to aid the body.
It can also have a positive impact on gut health. It can do this by maintaining the barrier in your intestines which in turn prevents a leaky gut. Strong gut health means that harmful/ toxic bacteria won't be able to leave the intestines to the rest of the body. It also plays a role in the maintenance of healthy cells in the intestines too.
Glutamine may also improve exercise performance and muscle gain and recovery time but more studies need to be conducted to prove this.
